Cajun Salmon Avocado Lime—just saying it makes my mouth water! I remember the first time I made this dish; the vibrant colors and zesty aroma filled my kitchen, promising a burst of flavor. The flaky salmon, perfectly spiced, combined with the creamy avocado and tangy lime…it was love at first bite. It’s now a staple in my rotation, especially when I’m craving something light yet satisfying, much like the flavors I enjoy in my Tilapia in Roasted Pepper Sauce recipe.

What Makes This Cajun Salmon Avocado Lime So Special?

What I adore about this Cajun Salmon Avocado Lime is how quickly it comes together. With just 15 minutes of prep and 12 minutes of cooking time, I can have a restaurant-quality meal on the table in under half an hour! The combination of the spicy Cajun seasoning with the cool, creamy avocado lime topping is simply divine. It’s also incredibly versatile – perfect for a weeknight dinner or a weekend brunch. It’s right up there with my Honey Pineapple Glazed Salmon, another favorite for its sweet and savory profile! And with such simple key ingredients, it’s a breeze to whip up anytime.

Ingredient Notes for Cajun Salmon Avocado Lime

When it comes to the salmon fillets, I always opt for wild-caught when possible for the best flavor and texture. For the avocados, make sure they’re ripe but still firm enough to hold their shape when diced. And don’t skimp on the fresh lime juice! It’s the key to brightening up the whole dish. For a different flavor profile, consider trying this with Miso Glazed Salmon sometime too!

Let’s Get Cooking: My Method

First, I like to pat the salmon fillets dry and generously season them with Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Then, I pan-sear them in olive oil until they’re perfectly cooked through and flaky. While the salmon is cooking, I whip up the avocado lime topping by combining diced avocados, red onion, jalapeño, cilantro, lime juice, olive oil, and salt. It’s so vibrant and fresh! It is equally tasty with salmon sushi bake. Once the salmon is ready, I top it with the avocado lime mixture and serve immediately.

My Secrets for Success with Cajun Salmon Avocado Lime

  • Don’t overcook the salmon! It should be cooked through but still moist.
  • Taste and adjust the seasoning of the avocado lime topping to your liking.
  • Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor.
  • If you don’t have jalapeño on hand, a pinch of red pepper flakes works too.

Serving Suggestions and Storage Tips

I love to serve this Cajun Salmon Avocado Lime with a side of quinoa or brown rice to soak up all the delicious flavors. It’s also fantastic with a simple green salad. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. I find that the avocado lime topping is best when fresh, so I recommend making it just before serving.

Can I use frozen salmon fillets?

Yes, you can! Just make sure to thaw them completely before cooking and pat them dry to remove any excess moisture. The Cajun Salmon Avocado Lime will still turn out delicious.

Can I make the avocado lime topping ahead of time?

While it’s best served fresh, you can prepare the avocado lime topping up to an hour in advance. Just be sure to cover it tightly and refrigerate it to prevent browning. When you’re ready to assemble the Cajun Salmon Avocado Lime, give it a good stir.

What if I don’t like spicy food?

No problem! You can easily adjust the amount of Cajun seasoning and jalapeño to your liking. Or, for a milder flavor, you can omit the jalapeño altogether. The flavors of the Cajun Salmon Avocado Lime will still shine through!

Can I grill the salmon instead of pan-searing it?

Absolutely! Grilling the salmon adds a lovely smoky flavor to the dish. Just be sure to grease the grill grates well to prevent sticking and cook the salmon until it’s cooked through. This is great for when you want an even more flavorful Cajun Salmon Avocado Lime.

Ingredients

  • 4 6-oz Salmon fillets skin on or off
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 2 tbsp Cajun seasoning adjust to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper
  • 2 Avocados diced
  • 1/4 Red onion finely chopped
  • 1 Jalapeño seeded and minced (optional)
  • 1/4 cup Cilantro chopped
  • 2 tbsp Lime juice freshly squeezed
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1/4 tsp Salt or to taste

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Baking Sheet

Method

  • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C). If you don't have an air fryer, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a small bowl, combine the olive oil, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Brush the Cajun mixture evenly over the top of each salmon fillet.
  • If using an air fryer, place the salmon fillets in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded. Cook for 8-12 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. Cooking time will depend on the thickness of the fillets. If using an oven, place the salmon fillets on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until cooked through.
  • While the salmon is cooking, prepare the avocado lime salsa. In a medium bowl, gently combine the diced avocados, red onion, jalapeño (if using), cilantro, lime juice, olive oil, and salt. Be careful not to mash the avocado too much.
  • Once the salmon is cooked, top each fillet with a generous spoonful of the avocado lime salsa. Serve immediately.

Notes

For a milder flavor, reduce the amount of Cajun seasoning. Serve with a side of rice or roasted vegetables for a complete meal. Leftover salmon and salsa can be stored separately in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
